Innovatek 721, 722 unlock

First off, I would like to thank this Forum, it’s moderators and it’s members. This is an excellent source of information and the moderators do a fabulous job of keeping it organized, which I am sure is a daunting task. Also, big props for the 2din package for 480×234 devices as the files I will include are based off of that, so thanks again to the mods.
I would like to thank Vihor2 who gave a push in the right direction to learn about these Innovatek all in ones which are good pieces of hardware with not a lot of support.
Last, but not least, my biggest thanks to Nicole at Innovatek for being nice enough to answer my plea for help and getting the info to access ce core from an Innovatek engineer.
So here goes. This is my first ever gps related tutorial so bear with me. Also, if you notice something that can be improved do not hesitate to let me know so I canupdate it.
Before getting started I would suggest you have at least 2 empty sd cards handy. I would recommend 3 but you could get away with 2 and some extra steps.
1) Download this file:
http://www.easy-share.com/1908180786/gpstest.rar
and extract it onto an sd card all by itself. This will be your key to access the windows ce core. It is simply windows ce explorer.exe renamed to gpstest.exe.
2) Download this file:
http://www.easy-share.com/1908181783/ResidentFlash.rar
and extract it to another sd card.
Armed with those 2 sd cards you are ready to update your radio.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ULTRA IMPORTANT WARNING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO NOT LET THE SCREEN RETRACT WHILE THE SD CARD WITH gpstest.exe IS IN IT!
IF IT RETRACTS WITH THAT CARD IN IT YOU WILL HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO MANUALLY PUSH THE SCREEN BACK OUT TO GET THE SCREEN TO OPEN AGAIN.
(IT CAN BE DONE BUT IS A PAIN IN THE NECK. I HAD TO DO IT TO LEARN THE HARD WAY SO I AM TRYING TO PREVENT OTHERS FROM THE HEADACHE!)
Now are you ready?
Turn the 721 or 722 on and open the screen. Take out the card that is in the radio and set it to the side.
Put the card with gpstest.exe in the radio.
Press the reset button (the little recessed button under the power button)
After the blue innovatek logo screen you should now be looking at windows ce desktop. If not you have done something wrong go back and read again.
UPDATE:
In about 30 seconds the screen will go black and radio will turn off. Do not panic just hit the power button and the radio will comeback on and boot into win ce desktop again and it will stay on this time and you can proceed with your editing session.
UPDATE END:
Now double tap “My Computer” icon.
This should open windows ce explorer. Double tap “Resident Flash”.
Now you should be looking at the files and directories which run your radio.
Double tap the “igo” directory. Now you are looking at your igo install.
Tap edit on the menu bar. Then Select All. All the files and directories for igo will be highlighted. Then tap File on the menu bar. (Here is whereI am sure you will get nervous)
Then Delete. Yes that’s right you will delete your igo install from the resident flash. (Don’t worry we are going to replace it with a better version in just a minute )
Once done deleting you should be looking at an empty “igo” directory on your resident flash. On top of the screen you should see a blue back arrow. Hit the blue back arrow 2 times. Now you should be looking at “My Computer” again. Pop outthe card with gpstest.exe on it and replace it with the other card we prepared earlier. Give it a second and then double tap the “Storage Card” icon when it comes up. You should be looking at you new igo files. Tap Edit on the menu bar. Then Select All. Then Copy. Now hit the blue back arrow again. Then double tap “Resident Flash”. Then double tap “igo”. Now tap Edit on the menu bar. Now hit Paste.
When that finishes take out that card and restart your radio.
You should be able to hit the NAVI button and the new IGO8.3.2.XXXX should come up.
Now all you have to do is put the new maps and corresponding content in a “content” folder on the card you will leave in the radio and you should have the new igo and the new maps.
